India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 1.41%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals , Auto and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.41%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.33%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Cipla Ltd. (NS: CIPL ), which rose 0.17% or 2.40 points to trade at 1,450.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Wipro Ltd (NS: WIPR ) fell 0.11% or 0.35 points to end at 308.85 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS: HLL ) was down 0.12% or 2.90 points to 2,363.25 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Shriram Finance Ltd. (NS: SHMF ), which fell 5.12% or 160.55 points to trade at 2,976.90 at the close. Grasim Industries Ltd (NS: GRAS ) declined 3.18% or 85.45 points to end at 2,599.70 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS: BRTI ) was down 2.84% or 47.25 points to 1,615.30.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO: ITC ) which rose 0.19% to 470.95, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO: HLL ) which was down 0.02% to settle at 2,365.50 and Wipro Ltd (BO: WIPR ) which lost 0.03% to close at 309.00.

The worst performers were JSW Steel Ltd (BO: JSTL ) which was down 3.06% to 960.00 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO: BRTI ) which lost 3.02% to settle at 1,612.20 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO: INBK ) which was down 2.55% to 974.25 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1718 to 787 and 122 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2294 fell and 1541 advanced, while 85 ended unchanged.

Shares in IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO: INBK ) fell to 52-week lows; down 2.55% or 25.45 to 974.25.

The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.60% to 14.52.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.48% or 12.89 to $2,657.11 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.50% or 1.06 to hit $69.65 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.78% or 0.58 to trade at $73.33 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.04% to 84.91, while EUR/INR fell 0.32% to 89.00.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 106.77.
