India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.98%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Banking , Consumer Durables and Capital Goods sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.98%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.17%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS: REDY ), which rose 3.94% or 50.20 points to trade at 1,325.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Cipla Ltd. (NS: CIPL ) added 2.32% or 34.15 points to end at 1,506.55 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS: BPCL ) was up 2.17% or 6.25 points to 294.55 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS: BJFS ), which fell 2.53% or 41.20 points to trade at 1,589.55 at the close. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS: ASPN ) declined 2.29% or 53.60 points to end at 2,291.85 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS: JSTL ) was down 2.21% or 20.90 points to 925.95.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO: SUN ) which rose 1.32% to 1,824.00, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO: PGRD ) which was up 0.37% to settle at 322.75 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO: HLL ) which gained 0.11% to close at 2,360.00.

The worst performers were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO: BJFS ) which was down 2.50% to 1,590.00 in late trade, JSW Steel Ltd (BO: JSTL ) which lost 2.33% to settle at 925.00 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO: BJFN ) which was down 2.25% to 6,914.00 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1556 to 943 and 135 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2166 fell and 1640 advanced, while 99 ended unchanged.

Shares in Asian Paints Ltd. (NS: ASPN ) fell to 3-years lows; losing 2.29% or 53.60 to 2,291.85.

The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.86% to 14.64.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.76% or 20.06 to $2,633.24 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.74% or 0.52 to hit $70.06 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.08% or 0.06 to trade at $73.45 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.01% to 85.09, while EUR/INR rose 0.80% to 88.59.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 107.64.
