U.K. stocks higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.07%

Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense , Media and Mining sectors led shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.07%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BAE Systems PLC (LON: BAES ), which rose 3.12% or 36.00 points to trade at 1,190.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Pershing Square Holdings Ltd (LON: PSHP ) added 2.44% or 98.00 points to end at 4,116.00 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON: STAN ) was up 2.08% or 20.50 points to 1,007.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Barratt Redrow PLC (LON: BTRW ), which fell 5.07% or 21.30 points to trade at 398.70 at the close. United Utilities Group PLC (LON: UU ) declined 4.91% or 50.30 points to end at 974.20 and JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON: JD ) was down 3.90% or 3.96 points to 97.54.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1209 to 604 and 593 ended unchanged.

Shares in Barratt Redrow PLC (LON: BTRW ) fell to 52-week lows; falling 5.07% or 21.30 to 398.70. Shares in Standard Chartered PLC (LON: STAN ) rose to 5-year highs; up 2.08% or 20.50 to 1,007.50.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.75% or 20.04 to $2,685.44 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.20% or 0.89 to hit $73.36 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.17% or 0.90 to trade at $76.15 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.96% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP rose 0.64% to 0.83.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.50% at 108.92.
