Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the IT , Materials and Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.70%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were TFI International Inc (TSX: TFII ), which rose 3.69% or 7.17 points to trade at 201.46 at the close. Meanwhile, Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp (TSX: AQN ) added 3.63% or 0.23 points to end at 6.56 and Telus Corp (TSX: T ) was up 3.31% or 0.67 points to 20.94 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Celestica Inc. (TSX: CLS ), which fell 28.04% or 48.98 points to trade at 125.70 at the close. TransAlta Corp (TSX: TA ) declined 20.57% or 3.98 points to end at 15.37 and Capital Power Corporation (TSX: CPX ) was down 16.98% or 10.37 points to 50.69.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 626 to 309 and 86 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 16.24% to 15.10 a new 3-months high.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.17% or 32.74 to $2,773.86 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.10% or 1.57 to hit $73.09 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.86% or 1.44 to trade at $76.11 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 0.70, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.12% to 0.66.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 107.15.
