U.K. stocks lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.15%

Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Gas, Water & Multiutilities , Tobacco and Electrical sectors led shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.15%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON: ANTO ), which rose 6.46% or 110.50 points to trade at 1,820.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Fresnillo PLC (LON: FRES ) added 6.22% or 48.50 points to end at 828.50 and Melrose Industries PLC (LON: MRON ) was up 5.92% or 38.00 points to 680.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Severn Trent PLC (LON: SVT ), which fell 4.50% or 113.00 points to trade at 2,399.00 at the close. National Grid PLC (LON: NG ) declined 3.95% or 38.40 points to end at 933.60 and HALEON PLC (LON: HLN ) was down 3.40% or 14.10 points to 400.80.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1103 to 697 and 585 ended unchanged.

Shares in Fresnillo PLC (LON: FRES ) rose to 52-week highs; rising 6.22% or 48.50 to 828.50. Shares in Melrose Industries PLC (LON: MRON ) rose to all time highs; gaining 5.92% or 38.00 to 680.00.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.33% or 9.54 to $2,930.14 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 3.96% or 2.70 to hit $65.56 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 3.38% or 2.40 to trade at $68.64 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.59% to 1.29, while EUR/GBP rose 0.90% to 0.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.26% at 104.36.
