Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Consumer Staples , Healthcare and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.54% to hit a new 3-months low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aya Gold & Silver Inc (TSX: AYA ), which rose 15.70% or 1.59 points to trade at 11.72 at the close. Meanwhile, First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX: AG ) added 10.50% or 0.84 points to end at 8.84 and IAMGold Corporation (TSX: IMG ) was up 8.70% or 0.64 points to 8.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tilray Inc (TSX: TLRY ), which fell 7.37% or 0.07 points to trade at 0.88 at the close. BRP Inc (TSX: DOO ) declined 4.53% or 2.67 points to end at 56.33 and Imperial Oil Ltd (TSX: IMO ) was down 4.13% or 4.13 points to 95.79.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 496 to 419 and 93 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tilray Inc (TSX: TLRY ) fell to all time lows; down 7.37% or 0.07 to 0.88.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.74% to 15.85.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.82% or 23.81 to $2,923.21 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.91% or 0.60 to hit $66.63 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.91% or 0.63 to trade at $69.91 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 0.69, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.61% to 0.64.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.52% at 103.41.
