Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT , Healthcare and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.90% to hit a new 3-months low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX: FM ), which rose 14.40% or 2.56 points to trade at 20.34 at the close. Meanwhile, First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX: AG ) added 9.29% or 0.82 points to end at 9.65 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX: BIR ) was up 8.11% or 0.43 points to 5.73 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX: VET ), which fell 8.26% or 0.97 points to trade at 10.77 at the close. Tilray Inc (TSX: TLRY ) declined 6.52% or 0.06 points to end at 0.86 and Shopify Inc (TSX: SHOP ) was down 5.85% or 8.12 points to 130.72.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 580 to 330 and 96 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tilray Inc (TSX: TLRY ) fell to all time lows; falling 6.52% or 0.06 to 0.86.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.72% to 16.02.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.66% or 48.99 to $2,995.79 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.64% or 1.11 to hit $66.57 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.58% or 1.12 to trade at $69.83 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.42% to 0.69, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.04% to 0.64.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 103.86.
